Weghorst joined Besiktas on loan at the start of the season, but has now cut short his stay.United manager, Erik ten Hag, has been in the market for a striker since Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract was mutually terminated during the World Cup after his explosive interview.
The Dutch striker has been handed the shirt previously worn by Marouane Fellaini between 2013 and 2019. It was recently worn by Alex Telles, who is currently on loan at Sevilla.
Weghorst has always worn the no.9 shirt during his time at Emmen, Wolfsburg, AZ Alkmaar and Burnley. His recent squad number confirmation suggests Weghorst is available for selection for United’s upcoming Premier League fixtures.
However, Weghorst must be registered the shirt for him to be available for the Manchester derby. The Red Devils play Crystal Palace next in the Premier League on Wednesday.
