The Inter Miami forward is already the record-holder of football’s biggest individual prize on seven, but will extend his already unassailable two-trophy lead over long-time rival Cristiano Ronaldo.
As per usual, the result of the voting has seemingly been leaked ahead of the ceremony in order to make sure the winner attends.
Multiple reports in Spain have claimed the 36-year-old will lift the golden ball again – fending off competition from Manchester City’s treble winner Erling Haaland and France star Kylian Mbappe.
Even more reliable than that, though, appears to be his barber, who didn’t hold back reporting the news.
Posting a picture with Messi ahead of the ceremony, Florida-based Luis Andres Rivera wrote on Instagram: “Dropping the biggest @leomessi [GOAT] off ready for tomorrow.
“Special day where in the name of God he will win his golden ball number 8.
“Thank you Leo for always trusting in me and blessing me with making possibly the biggest cut of my career. WILL BE SEEN BY THE WORLD.”
