This article seeks to acknowledge two top politicians of our time who have shown their patriotism via forfeiting half of their salaries in order to tackle challenges in the country.
1. President Muhammadu Buhari
It is on record that President Muhammadu Buhari at the inception of his first term in 2015, opted to be paid only half of his salary while the remaining half was used to tackle challenges in the country. This act of philanthropy by Buhari was an evidence of his true leadership right from 2015. It will interest you to know that Buhari’s forfeiture of 50% of his salary played great role in tackling the 2020 pandemic that broke out in the country. This contributed financially in the fight against COVID-19.
2. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo
The incumbent vice president of the country, Yemi Osinbajo is another top politician who went extra mile in opting to receive 50% of his salary in order to aid tackling of challenges in the country. Prof. Yemi Osinbajo had resolved in 2015 to join President Buhari in sacrificing half of his monthly salaries. This marked an outstanding point of his patriotic leadership in the country.
Furthermore, it is noteworthy that the duo have been more patriotic since the inception of their administration in 2015. Apart from accepting a half salary in 2015, President Buhari and Vice President Osinbajo have worked together in seeking ways to tackle challenges of insecurity and unemployment facing the country in recent times. Recently, the duo have drawn plans that will create 21 million jobs and lift 35 million people out of poverty by 2025. These are patriotic leaders indeed!
