1. In January 2021, News reported that his excellency, the governor of Rivers State, Chief Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, made a donation sum of N500 million to Sokoto state in rebuilding their market which encountered fire disaster months ago. Many criticized the governor for doing so, reason being that Sokoto doesn’t share boundary with Rivers State.

Rivers indigen most especially, condemned governor Wike’s decision as he is yet to settle pensioners in the state instead, he gifts such huge sum of money to a northern state.

2. On 28th of March 2021, DAILY POST reported that governor Nyesom Wike commended Grammy Award winner, Burna Boy with N10 million and land for making Rivers State proud.

Burna boy and his parents were recieved at the Government House in Port Harcourt as the governor described the Afrobeat singer, to be the pride of the state.

3. In May 2021, he made a donation sum of N500 million to Pamo University. According to him, such institution founded by former governor, Dr. Peter Odili and indeed any Rivers indigene, is worthy of support from the state government. Governor Wike made it clear that the money will enable the management of the institution to put in place the necessary educational infrastructure.

It was the second time the Rivers State governor donated same amount of money to the same university.

4. Still in the month of May 2021, the government of Rivers State headed by Governor Wike gave the sum of N20 million each to the family members of police officers killed by unknown gunmen in the state.

Recall that police officers were attacked in their stations with vehicles destroyed by undisclosed gunmen months ago. As a way to honour the dead policemen, governor Wike gave their family members a total of N220 million, which was shared among the families of eleven policemen who died for the state.

5. In June, 2021 governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, committed the sum of five billion naira to the Nigerian law school campus in Yenago, Bayelsa for the development of facilities.

His excellency made the disclosure during the flag-off of construction of two hostel blocks and a 1,500-seat auditorium in the law school months ago.

6. In August 2021, governor Wike donated the sum of N50 million to St Patrick’s Catholic Church Ndoni in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, during the funeral service of late Fidelis Odili, the Nzeobi of Ndoni, who passed on at 82. Late Fidelis was the elder brother of Sir (Dr.) Peter Odili who was the former governor of Rivers State.
