Interior PS Raymond Omollo said on Thursday the remaining works are on the commissioner’s residence and the stadium, which will be done round the clock to ensure timely completion.

Madaraka Day is an annual national event held every June 1, to commemorate the day in 1963 that Kenya attained internal self rule after being a British colony since 1920.

This year’s Madaraka Day celebrations will be held at Masinde Muliro Stadium in Bungoma.

Omollo was speaking after inspecting the commissioner’s residence, the stadium and Matulo airstrip.

The commissioner’s residence, according to the PS, will host the garden party after the Madaraka Day celebrations.

“We are satisfied with the level of preparations that has gone in making sure that all those facilities are ready. We still have some work to do between now and then,” Omollo said.

Omollo said the military will begin their parade formations on Monday, May 6, and they will be operating from Nzoia Sugar Company premises.

“We have made all the necessary security arrangements and we continue to plan and replan as we assess the progress and where gaps could be,” Omollo said.

He further noted that there are a number of feeder roads that are being done by both KURA and KERRA.

He said Kenya Power has also deployed their officers and the resources to ensure existing gaps are sealed and where need be, electricity is made available.

“The work that is going on at the residence and the stadium is being done on a 24-hour basis,” he said.

He appealed to the people of Bungoma to cooperate with the various contractors and the officers deployed to supervise and to implement the various aspects to ensure the success of the celebration.

Omollo in February had confirmed that the Matulo airstrip in Webuye, Bungoma, will be completed in May ahead of the Madaraka celebrations..CONTINUE READING>>
