A man called for help on the Reddit AITA thread after his girlfriend lied about a medical emergency to test his commitment....CONTINUE READING

Whether posed with a difficult moral problem, so people go to their family, while others go to their friends. Those who are more internet-inclined go to everyone’s favorite Reddit thread, AITA.

The original poster, 29, and his girlfriend Andrea, 29, have been together a “few months” fairly “smoothly” until a recent experience had him questioning the relationship entirely. Dubbing the ordeal a “ridiculous stunt”, the original poster (OP) explained that it all began late one night.

On the night in question, his girlfriend was home alone when she rang him in a panic. She was seriously injured and “having panic attacks” and didn’t know what to do. Andrea reported chest pain and exclaimed that she was “dying”, which, of course, sent the OP into a panic of his own.

For those questioning why she hadn’t rang 911, don’t fear, she had also done that. The OP said she was “heavy breathing” and begging for help down the phone.

He explained: “I took my car to rush towards her house, and it was only after reaching that I found out that she was joking about it.”

Andrea then met him “joyfully” at the door and admitted to wanting to test his commitment during an emergency. She even claimed it was an “essential part of the relationship.”

“I lost my temper and asked her what the f**k her problem was,” he added. “She said that she was just ‘testing’ me and I got p****d off.”

After swearing at her again Andrea began to cry and claimed she only wanted to see if “he was a good fit.”

Concluding the post, he wrote: “I left the house immediately and haven’t talked to her since. She’s been texting me, but I just ignored her.”

While the internet is undeniably crazy sometimes, a very loud majority of the commenters told the OP to run for the hills and not look back.

In the comments, one person wrote: “Run! She intentionally put you in a state of panic, causing you to drive in that state of panic, which is a recipe for disaster. An accident waiting to happen.

“Your panic was what she was looking for. It made her happy. It made her laugh. That’s how sociopaths feel. If you were killed in an accident on your way to her, it would have been a home run for her.”

“ Testing you like that was a pathetic and childish thing to do, find a new girlfriend. Not even married couples do that. She would’ve found out how committed you were when your relationship got to that stage. Thats your red flag, dont ignore it,” another person agreed.

A third added: “This sounds like high school antics. She’s not girlfriend material. She’s immature and foolish.”
The AITA Reddit thread gets a twist

Despite the resounding response from Reddit, the OP later offered an update that no one saw coming. He wrote: “After talking to her about it, I have decided to give her a second chance.

“She’s apologized a lot and promised to never do that again. I’d be more careful, of course, and I won’t be trusting her blindly. But I have thought that I’d give her one chance, especially since she’s shown herself to be regretful.”
