Earlier this week, four politicians from the southern part of the country revealed their ambitions to contest for the presidency in 2023. They include:
1. Asiwaju Bola Tinubu
The former governor of Lagos State revealed his intention to run for the presidency on Monday, January 10, 2022.
The national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has also informed President Muhammadu Buhari at Aso Rock.
Tinubu said his intention to run for president in 2023 is a lifelong ambition. He added that consultation is still ongoing and he is ready to build on Buhari’s legacy in 2023.
2. Orji Uzor Kalu
Reacting to Bola Tinubu’s declaration, Kalu also revealed his intention to run for the presidency in 2023.
The former governor of Abia State said this during an interview with Arise TV earlier this week.
The Senate Chief Whip added that he is capable of running for the presidency and he will challenge Tinubu if the APC zones its presidential ticket to the South in 2023.
3. David Umahi
The governor of Ebonyi State also visited Buhari at Aso Rock on Tuesday, January 11, 2022.
Umahi also informed President Buhari of his intention to run for the presidency in 2023.
When Umahi was asked about Buhari’s response after he informed him of his intention to run in 2023, he said the president told him to consult widely.
4. Dele Momodu
The publisher of Ovation Magazine declared his intention to run for the presidency at the Peoples Democratic Party National Secretariat in Abuja on Thursday, January 13, 2022.
The popular journalist said he has been nursing his presidential ambition for the past thirty years.
Momodu, who contested for the position in 2011 but lost, believes he is most experienced now.
