Alf-Inge Haaland has hinted that his son may leave Manchester City in three years’ time in a bid to win trophies across Europe.
Since making the move from Borussia Dortmund to the Etihad Stadium in the summer, Erling Haaland has been in magnificent form for the Blues. Before the World Cup break, the Norwegian striker had scored a whopping 23 goals in just 18 appearances in all competitions for City.
Haaland is currently well on track to surpass Mohamed Salah’s record for the most goals scored in a single 38-game Premier League season and manager Pep Guardiola will be hopeful that the 22-year-old can help lead his side to success in all competitions. However, Haaland’s dad, who also represented City, has claimed that his son could leave the Etihad sooner than City fans would want.
Speaking to France Football (via DAZN ), the 50-year-old admitted that his son could stay until the latter stages of his career but a move away would not faze him either. “Erling could stay at City for 15 years because he is very happy and we are talking about a huge club,” he said.
“But my impression is that he wants to demonstrate that he can win at any of the big leagues. He was in Germany for two-and-a-half years and he could do something like that in his future.
“Staying in the Premier League for three years and then going to Italy, Spain or France. There’s nothing firm about it, but it’s a possibility because Erling is capable of being a winner in any team.”
Haaland has had the opportunity to rest over the course of the last month following Norway’s failure to qualify for the World Cup. He is likely to feature on Saturday when the Blues take on Girona in a friendly match before making their competitive return to action on Thursday, December 22 when City host Liverpool in the Carabao Cup.
