Manchester City had a bright start to the game at the Etihad Stadium as they hope to clinch the Premier League title with a win in front of their home fans but they came behind in the 37th minutes courtesy of Matthew Cash’s header.
The Aston Villa fullback headed past Ederson into the back of the net from Lucas Digne’s cross to give the visitors the lead at half-time and Aston Villa lead Pep Guardiola’s men by 1 goal to nil at halftime.
In the second half, Philippe Coutinho doubled Villa’s lead but two goals from Ikay Gundogan and Rodri pulled the host level and the former netted a second to secure maximum points for Pep Guardiola’s side.
It was end to end performance from both sides in the first 30 minutes of the first half. Bruno Fernandes and Edinson Cavani had half chances in the final third while Wilfred Zaha had an effort saved by David De Gea.
However, Manchester United failed to learn from their huge defeat to Brighton and still looked shaky at the back. The host were unable to keep Wilfred Zaha at bay and the former Manchester United star fired his side in the 37th minutes.
Manchester United fought hard to score but they were unable to secure a late equalizer and Red Devils qualify for the Europa League due to Westham United’s 3:2 defeat to Brighton.
