In the wake of the agitations by the members of the proscribed Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) for the actualisation of their proposed Sovereign State of Biafra and the breakdown of law and order that accompanied it in the entirety of the South-Eastern region of Nigeria, the federal government (FG) was compelled to take many steps to restore peace over there. Not long after the inauguration of the aforementioned security operation, a news broke out that one of the most iconic entertainment personalities in the country, Chiwetalu Agu, had been arrested in Anambra State for breaking one of the national laws. According to Premium Times, the Nollywood actor was seen wearing an attire that was made out of the unlawlful Biafran flag, and inciting the members of the public in support of the IPOB struggles at a market square along Upper Iweka Road in Anambra State.

Also, according to the Nigerian Army, the entertainment guru was invited by some of its soldier members when they saw him in the aforementioned Biafran dress trying to instigate the public in support of the iPOB’s movement. And although, they invited him for interrogations, he was not manhandled in anyway.

But on his part, the vetrran actor defended himself, saying that he did not wear the dress code to drum supports for the IPOB members. Also, neither did he campaign for the separatists as claimed by his arrestors. Rather, he was distributing bread for the hungry people who were hanging along the side of the road when the soldiers who placed him under arrest approached him.

However, after being detained by the Military for a day, he was released, albeit upon the intervention of the members of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN). But his arrest saga did not stop there.

As soon as the Army set him free from its custody, the officials of the Department of the State Services (DSS) re-arrested him, and whisked him to their head office in Abuja. And he remained there for four days before he was allowed to go. But that was not without outcries from the members of the public, and particularly the involvement of a popular Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mike Ozekhomen.
