Following the news, the family has requested for the public to give them privacy during this time to mourn their loved one.

“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing on of our beloved, June Chebet Moi this morning,” a statement by the family read in part.

“At this time of grief, we request your prayers and privacy as we the family come to terms with the tragic loss of our sister. May her soul rest in eternal peace.”

The late president’s daughters have over the years managed to stay out of the public eye, despite their father being the most powerful man in Kenya from 1978 to 2002.

June Chebet, Moi’s last-born daughter was adopted by the late leader at a young age. She attended the Nairobi Primary School and later proceeded to the Kenya High School for her secondary education.

June later moved to Canada for her university education. With little known about her, she was active in her father’s politics for a short while before shifting to land and property development business.

The late Moi, who served as Kenya’s second President, got married to the late Lena Moi in 1950, who bore him five sons and two daughters.
