Well, the Blues may have received encouragement from Napoli to make a bid, as speculation about the Nigeria international – who Didier Drogba once called a “great striker” – has intensified in recent days.
Il Matino are now claiming that Chelsea lead the race to sign Osimhen ahead of Premier League rivals such as Manchester United and Liverpool, after all three English giants held a meeting with the striker’s representatives.
That is quite the development – if true – as Chelsea cannot offer the Napoli No.9 European football next season, whereas Erik ten Hag and Jürgen Klopp are able to do so.
Therefore, the financial package on the table must be pretty attractive for Osimhen, who currently earns £93,000-a-week at Napoli.
The 24-year-old has risen to become one of Europe’s best forwards since moving to Naples in 2020, scoring 31 goals in all competitions last season to help Napoli win their first Serie A title in 33 years.
Osimhen to Chelsea would delight Pochettino
If Todd Boehly manages to pull this deal off, it would surely delight Mauricio Pochettino based on what some sources are claiming.
A story from 90min stated that Osimhen is the Argentine’s No.1 striker target this summer, and the South American is desperate to work with the Nigerian at Stamford Bridge.
