Chelsea could sign Memphis Depay in January for as little as £4.3million, according to reports. The Blues were linked with the Dutchman in the summer and could reignite that interest in the winter window.

Depay is out of contract at Barcelona at the end of the season. The La Liga giants were keen on selling him in the summer to recoup as much money as they could for him.

Depay was determined to stay and fight for his spot at the Nou Camp. However, the 28-year-old has made just two league appearances so far this season and one substitute outing in the Champions League.

Barca see January as their last opportunity to get any money for Depay, who joined on a free transfer from Lyon in 2021. And Chelsea could make their move.

Spanish outlet AS, via Sport Witness, says Depay may now change his mind on leaving Barca after refusing to do so in the previous window. Barca would accept an offer as little as £4.3m (€5m) for the former Manchester United flop.

Depay is said to be open to joining Chelsea in order to play in the Champions League. Barca have dropped down to the Europa League after finishing third in their group, and will play United in a play-off in February.

Chelsea, meanwhile, will fancy their chances of reaching the quarter-final of the Champions League. They take on Borussia Dortmund for the first time in their history in the last 16.

Chelsea only signed a forward from Barca as recently as deadline day in September. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang returned to the Premier League after a six-month spell in Spain.

However, the ex-Arsenal skipper has just three goals to his name for the Blues. Chelsea have scored just 17 times in their 14 league matches so far this season, fewer than the likes of Fulham, Brentford, Leicester and Leeds.

So Graham Potter would understandably be keen to recruit in that position if the opportunity arises in January. If Depay were to move to Stamford Bridge, Chelsea will hope he performs better than his last time in England.

He scored just seven goals in 53 appearances for United in an 18-month spell at Old Trafford. Depay was a young, dynamic winger at the time but transformed into a goalscoring striker during his four-and-a-half years at Lyon.

Depay is part of the Holland squad heading to Qatar for the World Cup. He will be hoping to catch the eye of potential suitors with his performances.
