Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo looks set to leave Old Trafford in the January transfer window after a shocking interview with Piers Morgan.

The 37-year-old wanted to leave the club during the summer and has now taken aim at Erik ten Hag, the Glazers and his teammates.

A number of clubs were linked with making a move for Ronaldo, including Chelsea, after American owner Todd Boehly met with the Portuguese striker’s agent Jorge Mendes.

The Blues never made a move for the 37-year-old after Boehly presented the idea to former boss Thomas Tuchel, with the German refusing to entertain the idea, which contributed to his eventual sacking.

Having burnt almost every bridge at United, Ronaldo looks set to be available to sign in January, which may see Boehly reignite his interest in securing a deal for the Portugal international.

Following the explosive interview with Piers Morgan, one opportunity has now become available for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, with A-League CEO Danny Townsend offering an escape route for Ronaldo to move to Australia.

In comments published by News Corp, Townend said: “[Ronaldo] said he wasn’t getting any love and respect at Manchester United, but we’ll certainly give him plenty of love and respect in Australia.

“We might not be able to compete financially with other offers, but we can compete in other ways. Obviously, it’s a long shot, but we’ve certainly got a compelling proposition for him here in Australia to consider.”

A move to Australia would see him follow in the footsteps of a number of ex-Premier League players, including former Chelsea stars William Gallas and Daniel Sturridge.

Ronaldo is unlikely to want to move to Australia as the Portuguese superstar still has ambitions of featuring in the UEFA Champions League to extend his goal-scoring record and play at the top level.
