De Jong has been widely linked with a move to Man United this summer, with the Red Devils believed to have shortlisted the Dutchman at the top of their transfer wishlist.

According to The Mirror, the Red Devils are ready to pay £56.2million for the Netherlands international this summer.

However, the transfer has been dragging on for weeks now with United yet to agree personal terms with the midfielder.

With the locals of Old Trafford emerging as favorites for the services of the former Ajax ace, they face the prospect of losing the midfielder to rivals Chelsea.

Daily Mail, citing Spanish outlet Sport, reports that the Blues have hijacked United’s move for De Jong and are looking to convince Barcelona to allow the talented midfielder to move to Stamford Bridge instead.

The report claims the Blues are even ready to offer Barcelona the duo of Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso as heavyweights in a £51m plus-cash player deal.

Barca are reportedly interested in signing the two Spanish stars as Xavi looks to further strengthen his squad during the current window.

The Catalan giants have imposed a £70million price tag on De Jong, a fee the Red Devils have so far been unable to meet.

Earlier, sports briefs reported that Barcelona superstar Frenkie de Jong appeared to approve Tyrell Malacia’s transfer to Manchester United.

De Jong took some time to ‘like’ an Instagram post from Malacia informing his followers of his pleasure in joining the Red Devils.

United fans are now hoping that De Jong’s latest social media activity is an indication of his intention to join them this summer.
