As the February 25th election is fast approaching, there has been a message making the rounds about the Central Bank of Nigeria shutting down financial transactions two days before the election till after the election.

In the message making the rounds, people were advised to go and stock up their homes with whatever they will need in the coming days before the elections as soon as possible as they won’t be able to make any financial transaction to buy things from the 23rd of February to the 27th.

The message claimed that this move was made by the CBN to curb vote buying by politicians.

The message read in part.

“From Thursday, bank network will go off till Sunday or Monday so that politicians will not be able to transfer money to anybody for vote. So buy enough food at home. Do your transfer now because the next five days will be difficult”.

The Central Bank of Nigeria has debunked these claims saying that it is fake news and people should disregard the message.
