Cameroon is the second most successful nation as far as the Africa Cup of Nations is concerned. They have won the tournament five times, only behind Egypt who have won it seven times.
It is really no surprise as Cameroon have boasted some exceptional players such as Samuel Eto’o who is the tournament’s all-time top scorer with 18 goals and many others.
But something that is quite surprising about Cameroon’s triumph at the Africa Cup of Nations is the fact that they have never lifted the trophy with a local coach. On all five occasions where they won the tournament, they were coached by foreign managers:
1. Rade Ognjanović (Yugoslavia) was their coach when they won it in 1984.
2. Claude Le Roy (France) was their coach when they won it in 1988.
3. Pierre Lechantre (France) was their coach when they won it in 2000.
4. Winfried Schafer (Germany) was their coach when they won it in 2002.
5. Hugo Broos (Belgium) was their coach when they won it in 2017.
