His Monchengladbach contract was due to expire in the summer which led to rumors of a move to Ten Hag’s Manchester United.
The plan is to have Sommer cover for Bayern’s number one shot stopper Manuel Neuer due to the German breaking his leg during a skiing session back in December – an injury that ruled him out for the rest of the season.
Sommer revealed his excitement about the new challenges ahead saying: “We have some big challenges ahead of us. I’m hugely looking forward to starting here with my new team-mates and to everything that is to come.”
Back in August, his world-class performance against Bayern produced a Bundesliga record 19 saves as Gladbach held Bayern to a 1-1 draw.
He also featured in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar where Switzerland exited the competition in the last 16 courtesy of a 6-1 thrashing from Portugal.
