Edu has allegedly been pursuing individuals to fill the roles of midfielder and winger, suggesting that those are the primary areas of focus for the Gunners.

While Arsenal could need a boost in the middle of the field, it appears that they will wait until the summer to make any moves in that direction.

Some Premier League midfielders, like Declan Rice and Youri Tielemans, have been linked to the Gunners. Ilkay Gundogan echoed these sentiments, adding that Edu will have to go up against Barcelona if he tries to sign the German international.

During the 2020–2021 Premier League season, Gundogan scored 13 goals, leading his team to a dominant title run. Since Kevin De Bruyne was sidelined for a huge chunk of the season due to injury, the German stepped up and served as captain for the majority of the year.

His success carried over to the 2021/22 season, when his brace on the final day of the Premier League season ensured City would win the league.

In the absence of Granit Xhaka or Thomas Partey, he provided the midfield with the much-needed leadership and experience that Arsenal has sorely lacked.

Arteta was a part of Guardiola’s coaching staff for three years, during which time the two men shared a professional relationship. It helped the Gunners acquire Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko over the summer, and it might help them in a future trade as well.

For Arsenal to sign him, they’ll have to outbid Barcelona.The Gunners have been linked to the midfielder before, with reports claiming that Arsene Wenger attempted to sign him in 2015, a year before he joined Manchester City. Now it’s Arteta’s turn to try the same thing, and perhaps catch the German much to Barcelona’s dismay.
