With no major outgoing confirmed till the date of writing, the prospect of registering the likes of defender Andreas Christensen and midfielder Franck Kessie still remains a distant dream despite the fact that personals terms and formal paper works have already been agreed upon with the two.
While the work is being done in that regard, Barcelona are expected to take one step at a time. For that, they will ask a few players to lower their salaries and this will not include those who were a part of it in the first wave.
Second, they will consider selling a few fringe players like Miralem Pjanic, Martin Braithwaite, Samuel Umtiti, Clement Lenglet, Oscar Mingueza and Riqui Puig. The exits of senior players like Umtiti and Lenglet will alone make a significant difference in the bill.
If not, the management will in fact have to accept a significant burden of sorrow by releasing those who could churn out big bucks. As one can suspect, the player in question here would be a certain Frenkie de Jong.
Being chased by the Premier League side Manchester United, de Jong could be a big source of income for a team that is already working on bringing in new players like Robert Lewandowski.
Reports have it that anything close to €80-€85 million would do the trick. This way, the team can represent a significant profit and will have a desired space in the wage bill.
Now, cutting down as much as €160 million is indeed a difficult job, but if Barcelona are to acquire new players, the task must be carried out.
