The 23 year old defender was at the heart of the back line for the host of the night where he formed a formidable duo alongside Sebastian Coates as the central defenders, and was able to play key role in keeping a vital clean sheet which was a very nice way to end their preliminary campaign going into the competition proper.
Ronald Araujo in the game delivered at another level considering his top notch delivery which immensely helped in clearing some clear cut and big chances created by the opponent thereby making some clearances that could have been converted by the visitor.
The host took the lead in the 39th minute of the game with a goal from Edinson Cavani to make it one nil which was the only goal that separated the two sides going into the half time break.
