In 2021/22, Gavi had a fantastic breakthrough campaign. The 18-year-old, a graduate of Barcelona’s La Masia program, has solidified his place as an important player in the first team setup.
However, his future has been a source of concern this summer, as his contract was slated to end in 2023. There are worries that some clubs may activate his €50 million release clause and entice him away from his previous contract.
Liverpool were extensively connected with a deal for Gavi, while Bayern Munich were also interested in the 18-year-old.
According to Anais Marti Herrero’s claim, Manchester United was also interested in signing Gavi and even made the La Masia alumnus a substantial contract offer. A three-year contract worth €5 million per season was in fact offered to the 18-year-old, according to the report.
The teenager said this after signing a new long-term contract with the Catalan giants that extends his tenure at Spotify Camp Nou until 2026. He is currently protected by a huge €1 billion release clause.
Gavi has made 54 appearances for Barcelona since making his first team, scoring two goals and assisting six more. This season, he has surpassed more seasoned players like Frenkie de Jong and Franck Kessie to become a regular starter in the starting lineup.
