Onyango attempted to take his life at a rented house in Siaya town and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Siaya County Referral Hospital.

Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo confirmed the incident, stating that a report was made at Siaya Police Station by the hospital’s Medical Superintendent, Michael Oduor Onyango’s girlfriend, Sharon Achola, reported that he had threatened to harm himself and posted about it on Facebook due to complications with his family.

The police have launched investigations into the death of a Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST) student.

Identified as Laban Onyango, the student based in JOOUST’s Siaya campus reportedly attempted to take his life at a rented house at Southlands Estate in Siaya town.

A report by Citizen Digital indicated that he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Siaya County Referral Hospital.

Confirming the incident, Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo said a report was made at the Siaya Police Station by the hospital’s Medical Superintendent, Michael Oduor.

Oduor told the police that a dead body had been brought to their casualty room as an emergency case. He explained that Onyango’s girlfriend, Sharon Achola, had rushed him to the facility after he allegedly tried to harm himself using a leso.

The police boss said that, according to Sharon, Onyango visited her on Tuesday, March 26 and kept threatening that he would harm himself and shared a post on Facebook about the same.

He complained that his parents and siblings were complicating his life. The next day, Sharon woke up and bathed, but she found the house locked from inside on returning.

She called for help, attracting neighbours who swiftly responded and climbed over the roof only to find Onyago hanging with a leso around his neck.

Kimaiyo disclosed that they cut the piece of cloth and then rushed him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
