According to Nation, Bassile Samuel David Moreillon and Kenyan Geoffry Kibet Bwambok were charged with carrying out illegal tests for unknown research.

Appearing before Iten Senior Principal Magistrate Emily Kigen, Moreillon pleaded guilty to the charges and asked for mercy, saying he was a PhD student doing research.

In her ruling, Magistrate Kigen ordered the Swiss national to pay KSh 400,000 or serve a jail sentence of over three years.

Bwambok was released on a bond of KSh 600,000 with an alternative cash bail of KSh 300,000 after he pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against him.

Lang’ata MP Felix Odiwuor alias Jalang’o called on the government to safeguard the safety and protection of athletes who have brought international acclaim to Kenya.

Lawmakers emphasised that the government often acknowledges athletes’ achievements only momentarily, neglecting their ongoing needs.
