Doctor Warns Against The Use Of These Four Supplements

Supplements have become extremely common these days and people are dependent on these vitamin and mineral supplements to meet the body’s daily needs. While most supplements are healthy for your body and can benefit you in numerous ways, there are certain supplements that you be careful about.

Sharing on TikTok, Dr Charles advised against the use of these four supplements due to the potential health risks. He said, “These are the four supplements you should never take as they’re actually dangerous.” The four supplements are:

This is an essential vitamin for the body and helps to keep your vision healthy and also boosts your immune system. It is also rich in antioxidants and helps fight heart diseases.

However, Dr Charles said, “People think that it helps your skin and your eyes but it actually builds up in your body and cause liver damage.” Too much of Vitamin A can also cause vomiting, vertigo, blurry vision, bone thinning and birth defects.

Speaking of Vitamin E Dr Charles said, “People love it for its antioxidant effects but it’s actually been linked to higher rates of cancer.” There have been several studies that link Vitamin E and cancer. Some studies have highlighted that the excess of this vitamin increases the risk of prostate cancer in men.

Iron is an extremely important mineral and a deficiency of this can lead to anaemia and other diseases. However, Dr Charles said: “Unless your doctor specifically says to take iron it can damage your heart.”

A study said that prolonged use of iron supplements increases the risk of heart failure. Study author Dr Jumpei Ito told Medical News Today: “Our results suggest that the release of iron can be detrimental to the heart. It can lead to unstable oxygen levels, death in heart cells and ultimately heart failure.”

While biotin is known to be beneficial for hair and nail. However, the use of this supplement results in inaccurate lab test results, which could be dangerous. Dr Charles said, “Number one is biotin because it can interfere with your lab tests. You don’t actually need to supplement this for your hair and nails.”

According to a report on express.co.uk, Harvard Health says, “The FDA warns that taking too much biotin can interfere with lab tests, such as hormone tests and tests for markers of heart attacks (like troponin). An inaccurate lab result can have dangerous consequences.

“For example, the FDA reports that one person taking high levels of biotin died after a falsely low troponin test result. The FDA also notes it’s seeing an increase in reports of biotin interference in lab work.”
