Recall that after results for the senate and house of reps elections were collated by the Professor Mahmud Yakubu-led Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Labour Party won no fewer than six senatorial and 34 house of reps seats in the upcoming 10th National Assembly, defeating serving state governors and more experienced, powerful lawmakers in the process.

Reacting to the Labour Party’s feat during an interview on Channels TV’s ‘Politics Today’ on Friday, Karimi, a Kogi APC chieftain who also won a seat at the national assembly, pointed out that Obi’s emergence paved way for youths who were active during the EndSARS protests to make a massive change in Nigeria’s political space and as such, affect the elections in the manner being witnessed around the country.

He said; “I would say that, first of all, the youths of this country are desirous of change. When we look back to the EndSARS protests of 2020, we will realize that the aftermath of that protest is what we are witnessing in this election.

It is also the aftermath of the protest that gave birth to the Obidients, the ardent followers of Peter Obi. You will also see that the emergence of Obi gave these youths something to fall back to.

So, I will say that it is the Obidients that are responsible for the big change that we have seen in the 2023 elections.”
