This is especially important as we reach our 70s. Even in senior people who are otherwise healthy, there is a normal loss in kidney function associated with aging. On the other hand, as was said before, the foods we choose to eat can have a significant influence on the state of our kidneys.

According to webmd, our kidneys are responsible for a number of important functions throughout the body, including filtering the blood, producing hormones, removing waste through urine, maintaining the body’s fluid balance, and maintaining mineral balance.

Because the kidneys’ inability to perform these functions can lead to a buildup of waste in the blood and body, which can cause a wide range of health issues, we need to avoid the items that are listed below.

1. Foods stored in cans

Tomatoes, fruits, vegetables, and other foods that are canned are high in sodium and preservatives, both of which can cause kidney damage and dysfunction over time, particularly in persons who are in their 60s and older.

2. Alcohol

Because of their drying effect, alcoholic beverages such as beer, wine, and dry gin (or spirit) can dehydrate the cells and organs of our bodies, including the kidneys. This can lead to a decrease in renal function as well as a diminished ability of the kidneys to filter the blood.

This is of utmost significance for older people because cutting back on alcohol use slows down the degradation of their kidneys and other organs, which is extremely crucial for them.

According to healthline, processed foods, such as smoked fish and pork, salted and dried foods, cured foods, and canned foods, have been linked to chronic kidney disease and may potentially cause other chronic health issues, particularly in the elderly. This is particularly concerning because kidney disease is one of the most common causes of death in the United States.

4. Soda

Studies have linked ailments such as dental problems, renal diseases, and other conditions to the presence of artificial sweeteners and additives in soda drinks. These ingredients can be found in soda drinks. Consuming less soda can reduce the risk of developing kidney illness, in addition to lowering the risk of obesity and other problems.

5. Organ meats

Pepper soup sauce, which often includes organ meats as an ingredient, is particularly well-liked among individuals in their 60s and older.
