1. Margarine

You really shouldn’t be eating this stuff at any age. It’s bad for you. But when you’re in your 40s, its detrimental effects on your body are high, it increases the bad cholesterol in the blood, and causes the walls of the arteries to thicken which can eventually leads to heart diseases. The culprit in margarine is trans fat, which destroys hydration. The less your skin is hydrated, the faster the wrinkles appear.

2. High-sodium foods

Too much salt can be a problem for older adults, especially if you have a history of hypertension. If your food is lacking flavor, try adding different types of herbs and spices rather than loading up with table salt. Additionally, always review the sodium content on nutritional labels.

3. Sugary drinks

Studies link regular consumption of sugary drinks to heart disease, and also excess sugary drinks can increase blood sugar level which can increase your risk of diabetes and obesity, at age 40 most people are not fit enough to indulge in physical activities. Even though walking regularly can help burn some calories off, it is best to reduce our consumption of sugar.

4. Red meat

The iron found in red meat can accelerate the damage caused by free radicals. Over time, the iron builds up in gray matter regions of an older adult’s brain, causing Alzheimer’s disease. The more red meat your loved one eats, the more damage may occur to his or her communication neurons.
