Stroke can become dangerous when it gets complicated and that is why quick medical intervention is necessary when it occurs.

Strokes are of two types. These include: ischemic and hemorrhagic. Ischemic strokes are more widespread and are affected by a narrowing or blockage of arteries to the brain, stemming from severely curtailed blood flow.

Hemorrhagic strokes are less common and are caused by bleeding in the brain. Both of these two types are dangerous and we all must avoid the risk factors that trigger them.

There are certain signs of stroke you should not always ignore. Some of them include;

. Numbness in your arm, leg or face, particularly on one side of the body

. Difficulty walking, loss of balance or coordination.

. Complications speaking and understanding others who are speaking.

We must pay attention to these symptoms and seek medical attention once they begin to ensue.

There are certain things we do that can cause strokes. Some of them include;

1. Smoking

Nicotine activates tobacco addiction. Nicotine acts on the brain, on the nervous system it acts as an anxiolytic. Tobacco poses a risk to health, in the development of cancers of the liver, pancreas, lung, stomach, kidney, cervix, breast, colon-rectum, ovarian and some leukaemias. Smoking decreases breathing and heart capacity, the body is less oxygenated.

Aside from lung cancer, smoking can also trigger strokes. Smoking nearly doubles your risk of having an ischaemic stroke. Smokers are also more likely to formulate high blood pressure, which is a crucial risk factor for stroke. Smoking is especially harmful to people who already have high blood pressure because high blood pressure causes damage to the arteries. To avoid stroke, try and stop smoking.

2. Too much alcohol intake

Excessive intake of alcohol can also trigger stroke. Too much alcohol intake can trigger atrial fibrillation (a type of irregular heartbeat). Atrial fibrillation heightens your risk of stroke by five times because it can cause blood clots to form in the heart. If these clots move up into the brain, it can lead to stroke. Everyone should also try and limit the amount of alcohol he or she consumes regularly.

3. Sedentary lifestyle

A sedentary lifestyle is also one of the major causes of stroke. When you do not get enough physical activity, it can lead to other health conditions that can increase the risk for stroke.

These health conditions include obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes. Regular physical activity can lower your chances of stroke. Always try and exercise regularly to avoid stroke.
