He might not hold the world record anymore, but his standing as the person who changed the way the marathon is viewed is forever etched in history.

But apart from his road running exploits, the 39-year-old has also built a strong brand that has made him a global icon.

From his posters in Mexico City to his beautiful statue in Nike headquarters in Oregon to his powerful quotes whenever he faces the media, Kipchoge is whoever he thinks he is.

His talent and status as the double Olympic marathon champion and holder of the four fastest marathon times inside the top 10 have seen him engage with world-beating football stars.

This past weekend, he was warmly received by Manchester United players during their training sessions. Kipchoge and Manchester United share a common sponsor: INEOS founder Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Kipchoge was also present at Old Trafford on September 1, when Liverpool beat the home side 3-0 in a Premier League game.

Eliud Kipchoge is a self-confessed fan of Tottenham Hotspur. After winning the London marathon for the fourth time in 2019, Kipchoge stuck around and visited his favourite club at their new stadium.

Both were sponsored by Maurten at the time. Kipchoge met Mauricio Pochettino, Harry Kane, and former Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama, among others.

Kipchoge met Lewis Hamilton, the joint-most successful Formula 1 driver of all time, during the 2020 Laureus World Sports Awards at Verti Music Hall in Berlin, Germany.

Kipchoge had been nominated for the award in a stellar list that included Hamilton, record Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi, 15-time majors winner Tiger Woods and 22-time Grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal.

Hamilton and Messi were declared the joint winners of the award.

In 2021, Kipchoge rubbed shoulders with 2018 World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe during his visit to Paris Saint-Germain.

He was involved in the pre-match activities with the French striker, who gifted him a signed shirt with his name on the back.

Bruno Fernandes presented Kipchoge with a Manchester United shirt before he took a photo with the whole squad.

They haven’t met per se, but it is important to note that Kipchoge is the only Kenyan Cristiano Ronaldo follows on
Instagram. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is the most followed person worldwide, with over 600 million followers.

It was the first time the legendary marathoner dropped out of a race in his storied career.
