The 16-year-old right-back left Australian outfit Perth Glory last year when his family moved to England.

Since then, Overy has been playing for Newton Abbot Spurs’ first team, but he is now attracting interest from Premier League club.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United have proposed a scholarship deal to Overy and are ‘hopeful’ that he will choose to join their academy by snubbing offers from elsewhere.

West Ham, Everton and Leicester City are all said to be interested in signing Overy.

Overy will find it hard to turn down United’s approach since the academy is renowned for its excellence, with youth scouts constantly on the lookout for the best young talent out there.

Last week United completed the signing of 14-year-old Silva Mexes from Ipswich Town.

United also offer youngsters a pathway into the first team. In the past two seasons, we’ve seen Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo emerge from the academy before they quickly became regulars in Erik ten Hag’s team.
