Firstly, “before I formed you in the womb” means before you were even born, before you came into this world as a baby, God already knew you. Imagine before you were even in your mother’s tummy, God knew everything about you.
Now, when God says, “I knew you,” it’s not just like knowing someone’s name or what they look like. It’s much deeper. It means God knew everything about Jeremiah—his thoughts, his feelings, his hopes, and his dreams. It’s like how a parent knows their child so well, but even more than that because God knows everything about everyone.
So, why is this important? Well, it shows us how special we are to God. He didn’t just create us and leave us alone. He knows each and every one of us intimately, like a close friend who knows us better than we know ourselves. This means we are never alone, even when we might feel like it.
It also tells us that God has a plan for each of us. Since He knew us even before we were born, He has a purpose for our lives. Just like how a builder plans out a house before starting to build it, God has plans for us before we even take our first breath.
Now, some people might wonder, “But what about my choices? Do I have any say in my life if God already knows everything?” Well, yes, we do have free will. Even though God knows everything, He gives us the freedom to make our own choices.
