Wayne Hennessey – 7

Produced an alert save to deny Kevin De Bruyne in the first half, who whipped in a shot from an improbable angle out wide. Also saved well from Michy Batshuayi. Couldn’t do much about the goal. A solid outing from the big man.

Chris Mepham – 7

Coped well up against De Bruyne and Co. Good positioning throughout. The visitors cut the Wales backline apart for the opener and Mepham could do little to stop it.

Joe Rodon – 7

Always looks so composed on the ball. Very much the leader of the Welsh backline. This writer will echo Gareth Bale’s words this week – why isn’t he playing more for Tottenham? Like Mepham, could do little when Belgium turned it on for Tielemans’ strike. Header late on sailed over. Booked.

Ben Davies – 8 – STAR MAN

Superb against Ukraine and the Netherlands, he was similar here again. Produced an excellent block on Batshuayi to keep the scores level at the break. Alongside his defensive duo, was cut in two by the Red Devils’ goal. Subbed.

Connor Roberts – 7

Got forward with every opportunity that was afforded to him. Snatched at a half-chance just before the break. Subbed in the second half.

Joe Allen – 7

Fine showing, on and off the ball, until injury struck. Subbed after 37 minutes due to what looked like a hamstring issue. But it has be said – Allen has enjoyed a fine few weeks in a Wales shirt.

Ethan Ampadu – 8

Moved back into midfield here, was so unlucky to see his screamer ruled out. Usual class on the ball, had to be a bit more disciplined after Allen’s withdrawal. Looks at home in the middle of the park…

Neco Williams – 7

A lively outlet down the left-hand side, you felt tired just watching him. Formed a great partnership with James on that flank. Not afraid to shoot from range – always a plus point. Ran his socks off all night.

Harry Wilson – 7

Neat and tidy in tight spaces, the Fulham playmaker tried to knit play together. His left peg threaded a few passes. Subbed.

Gareth Bale – 7

Looks to have benefited from getting game-time under his belt. Couple of touches of class without overly influencing proceedings. Subbed.

Daniel James – 7

As ever, James’ pace caused the Belgian backline all manner of problems. Workrate superb once again. Can be credited for pushing the Belgian defence back to give themselves an extra few yards to counter his speed.
