Azimio la Umoja has named former Attorney-General Amos Wako to lead its team in the panel that is going to oversee the audit of the 2022 presidential elections.
The opposition also appointed former nominated senator Judith Pareno and forensic investigator Julius Njiriani to the six-member panel.
According to the NADCO report, both Kenya Kwanza and Azimio were to nominate three members each to the panel which will comb through the results of the 2022 presidential elections.
The panel should be in place 21 days after the adoption of the NADCO report. National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi wrote to the Speaker on Monday communicating members of Azimio to the panel.
“I have today written to the Speaker conveying the names of the three persons who will be our members in the panel,” Wandayi said.
“These three persons will be led by Hon. Wako; they will join their three counterparts from the Kenya Kwanza side.”
President William Ruto has yet to make public the names of their nominees to the Panel. The panel is expected to amongst others appoint a reputable firm or a consortium of firms to undertake the evaluation.
“If there is no agreement on the joint appointment of the firm, each side of the panel shall appoint a reputable firm to undertake the evaluation. The two firms shall coordinate the evaluation process,” Wandayi said.
The Ugunja MP was speaking at his Parliament office on Monday. According to the NADCO report, in a situation where the two sides appoint separate firms to conduct the evaluation process – the reports will be taken to the sic-member panel for harmonization.
“After the conduct of the evaluation process, the Panel shall harmonize the findings of the two forms and submit a harmonized report to Parliament,” Article 263 (a) (iv) of the report reads.
