The deadlock was broken in the 28th minutes after Andre Onana spilled Leroy Sane’s tame strike into his own net and the host extended their lead in the 32nd minutes minutes through Serge Gnabry assisted by Jamal Musiala.
Manchester United gave themselves a glimmer of hope in the second half as Rasmus Hojlund scored a deflected goal to bring the score to 2-1. However, few minutes later, Bayern were awarded a penalty after Dayot Upamecano’s header struck Christian Eriksen’s arm in the box.
The referee pointed to the spot after a VAR check and Harry Kane dispatched the penalty to put Bayern back in command and the Red Devils looked resigned to defeat.
Their goal just after half-time gave them a chance, but they have not been able to find a way through Bayern’s resolute defence since then. Bayern, meanwhile, are content to hold the ball for the final few minutes to run down the clock and close out the victory.
In the closing stages of the game, Manchester United found some life as Casemiro scored to bring the score to 3-2. But just as United looked to be getting back into the game, Mathys Tel scored to make it 4-2.
