The sacking of former manager Thomas Tuchel was immediately followed by the appointment of Graham Potter, and although many are still skeptical about the abilities of the new manager, he is who Todd Boehly has chosen to hopefully steer the 2021 Champions league winners in the right direction.

However, while Todd Boehly continues to settle in at London, his recent statement via SALT NYC about some Chelsea academy graduates goes to prove that he isn’t yet fully familiarized with the club’s history. Specifically, he said that top Premier league players Mohamed Salah and Kevin De Bruyne are products of Chelsea academy.

While both players had previously played at Stamford Bridge, Todd Boehly was actually wrong to say that they graduated from Chelsea’s youth system. For context, Mohamed Salah and Kevin De Bruyne never played for Chelsea in their youth careers.

The Egyptian arrived Stamford Bridge from Swiss club Basel in 2014 at the age of 22, before then he had played for Al Mokawloon (2006-2012), a football club in his home country.

Al Mokawloon was actually the team Mohamed Salah played in his youth career and not Chelsea like Todd Boehly claimed. Kevin De Bruyne on the other hand arrived Chelsea in 2012 from Belgian club Genk at the age of 21.

He had played for Genk since 2005, but when his career at Chelsea didn’t look like panning out positively, he moved away permanently to the Bundesliga in 2014 before signing for Manchester City a year later.

With both players currently having flourishing careers away from Stamford Bridge, it is only natural that Todd Boehly will admire their quality, but his statement that they are both products of Chelsea academy is false.
