The oil rich south-south geopolitical zone is a stronghold of the People’s Democratic Party. Yet the rumoured ambition of former Lagos State governor is rapidly growing there. There are two instances that show how much Tinubu’s candidacy is moving.
Tinubu doesn’t seem to have so much influence in the south-south geopolitical zone of the APC. However, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Delta State, Mr. Okumbor Ugiagbe Hycenth, has launched a campaign group for Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The APC stalwart called the campaign movement “Tinubu Support Group (TSG). This actually came at a time the APC is passing through a very rough and tough time in the Delta State chapter. There are issues on ground for the party.
Yet the chieftain deemed it necessary to mobilise several supports for Bola Tinubu. And the move made by Okumbor Ugiagbe Hycenth has established Tinubu’s presidency in Delta State. Other top politicians from the state (Ovie Omo-Agege, Festus Keyamo, Peter Nwaoboshi) may join the train.
Likewise, Tinubu has got some support base in Rivers State. Mr. Magnus Abe is leading a strong faction which has declared a support for Bola Tinubu. The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress is being controlled by two persons. It may be true that Rotimi Amaechi holds the mantle.
Rivers State is very strategic to any political party that wants to win the presidential election. And presidential candidates often struggle to win it. Of course, Nyesom Wike would work to block the APC in that state, it is still true that Magnus Abe had brought Tinubu’s rumoured presidency into Rivers State.
