After two seasons at Chelsea which saw him scoring 23 goals and made 21 assists in 89 appearances across all competitions, Timo Werner called it quit at West London last summer and secured a move back to Rb Leipzig where Chelsea bought him in 2020.

Timo Werner was tipped to become a dominant force in Chelsea squad after the West London club signed. He won the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup with the Club but, he never really reached the stage that was expected of him.

He played a huge role in Chelsea’s success in the UEFA Champions League but his Inconsistency, struggles to score goals, his hard luck and his lethargic confidence all contributed to why he was never a major success at Chelsea.

At the end of Timo Werner’s first season at Chelsea, the West London club signed Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan for a club record fee. After Lukaku arrived, Thomas Tuchel shipped Timo Werner out of the starting lineup as the German Forward struggled for playing time.

According to Sun Sport, Werner said: “The biggest problem was that Tuchel put a striker like Lukaku in front of me in the second season after I won the Champions League by nearly playing every game in the first squad.”

He further claimed that it’s a normal thing if a Manager likes a Player than the other and that’s why Romelu Lukaku and Kai Havertz get all the playing time while he rots away on the bench.

In my opinion, I think Timo Werner caused his bad luck at Chelsea. Chelsea obviously signed him to score goals but, he couldn’t even do that consistently and the club ended up spending more money to sign a new Striker.
