Your lungs play a critical role in your general well-being and performance. You do not recognize you have an issue until you are unable to breathe. Your lungs, like the rest of your body, must be maintained regularly.
The majority of people who develop lung cancer and other related diseases, according to scientific research, don’t simply smoke cigarettes or use drugs; they also participate in other dangerous behaviours that affect the body’s organs.
According to Healthline, here are some potentially dangerous habits and activities that may affect your lungs and lead to lung diseases:
1. Smoking
The most often used substance is tobacco. Toxic compounds in cigarette smoke can irritate the lungs and damage the suppleness and structure of the airways and air sacs. The cilia (mucus-clearing structures) in the lungs are damaged by cigarette smoke, resulting in mucus accumulation and infection.
2. Chemical and Gas Exposure
Allergies to certain gases and chemicals can induce inflammation and scarring in and around the bronchioles and alveoli of the lungs. Lung cancer can be caused by radioactive vapours produced during a nuclear reactor accident. Inhaling small amounts of gas or other substances over a long period might induce chronic bronchitis (airway inflammation).
Furthermore, Inhaling certain substances, such as arsenic compounds and hydrocarbons, can potentially cause lung cancer.
A history of relevant exposure is required for the diagnosis of gas and chemical exposure. The majority of people recover entirely after being accidentally exposed to gases. Lung infection or significant damage that results in scarring of the small airways are the most dangerous outcomes (bronchiolitis obliterans). Some studies have found long-term pulmonary function damage years after exposure.
3. Nutrient deficiencies
In both smokers and nonsmokers, eating a well-balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables has been related to a lower risk of lung disease.
4. Domestic activities
Use of asbestos, avian protein, mildew, and radon are just a handful of the pollutants that can cause lung disease in some dwellings.
