In a Gazette Notice published in the local dailies, NLC chairman Gershom Otachi noted that the land would be used for the Baringo-Silali Geothermal project in Baringo County and the Menengai Geothermal project in Nakuru County.

This is in line with the Land Act, 2012 which requires the government to give a notice before carrying out the objective.

Baringo-based landlords in the affected regions possessed several Hectares of land including 8.969 Ha, 3.3Ha, 20.15 Ha, 9.067Ha and 4.15 Ha.

“The plan of the affected land may be inspected during office hours at the office of the NLC, Ardhi House, 3rd Floor, Room 305, 1st Ngong Avenue and at the County Coordinator’s Office in Baringo County,” the notice read in part.

In Nakuru, the acres of land will be acquired to facilitate access to the Menengai Geothermal Project. Additionally, the government listed the 50 landlords and issued a way forward for the compensation for the interested parties.

It’s important to note that the claims will be filed at Ardhi House from Wednesday, May 29, to Friday, May 31. The affected persons must provide the required documents in Ardhi House, 3rd Floor, Room 305 in Nairobi.

“Every person interested in the affected land is required to deliver to the National Land Commission on or before the day of the inquiry a written claim to compensation, a copy of identify card (ID), Personal Identification No. (PIN), land ownership documents and bank account details,” the notice read in part.
