The senators found out that the mortuary lacked a working generator as the one that was there has spoilt in 2018. The mortuary attendants were now depending on electricity which was unreliable. This particular day that the senators visited, there was a power blackout hence the bodies were smelling
The grim scene took a surreal turn when senators observed buckets suspended from the mortuary’s ceiling holding embalming chemicals.
The buckets were holding the chemicals used for embalming as there was no power. The mortuary attendants revealed that they haven’t been paid for months by the county government of Nairobi.
The shocked senators among them Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna called on the county government led by Johnson Sakaja to consider in there supplementary budget to factor in the buying of a generator as it was affecting the operations in the mortuary.
“we have witnessed a situation that i will not say is good, it needs to be revisited, and we are asking the county government of Nairobi to begin to work on it, one there is a generator there that has not been working since 2018, and unfortunate today on our visit, we had A blackout that had lasted the greater part of today, and that affects the mortuary operations,” Mandago said.
“we want to urge the county government of Nairobi and the assembly to consider in there supplementary budget to urgently provide a generator….we have also noted a shortage of staff here…CONTINUE READING>>
