You should not wait till the toilet starts having stains before you wash it. People who do that might end up with a toilet infection. The stains in the toilet are a result of bacteria growth. The bacteria film is mostly formed at the water line of the toilet, and it occurs more often if a person does not flush after urinating. They can be very tough to remove with ordinary detergent even though you scrub thoroughly.

Scrubbing your toilets with detergents does not kill all the germs. It might look clean to the naked eye, but microscopically some germs are still alive.

It is best to use a toilet cleaner, especially if you have tough stains. Apply the toilet cleaner for a few minutes, then scrub thoroughly. The stains will go away, leaving your toilet clean and sparkling.

If you can not get a toilet cleaner, then you can use bleach. Although some plumbers do not advise this, as the bleach can damage the toilet. But using bleach also gets rid of tough stains.

Apply the bleach for some minutes just like the toilet cleaner. You should not use bleach if your other cleaning products have ammonia, as this can create a poisonous gas.
