Over the years, Spanish sides have shown their might in European competitions, and based on records from the past 19 years, if a Spanish side gets to the final of a European competition, they are likely to win it.

The biggest European competitions in club football are the UEFA Champions League and the Europa League and since 2004, all the Spanish teams that have reached the final of any of these competitions has ended up winning it.

In 2004, when the Europa League was still called the UEFA Cup, Valencia reached the final of the competition and defeated Marseille 2-0.

It took another two years for Spanish teams to reach the final of any of those competitions but in 2006, Barcelona won the Champions League, beating Barcelona 2-1 while Sevilla won the UEFA Cup after beating Middlesbrough 4-0.

In 2007, Espanyol and Sevilla reached the final of the UEFA Cup and after a 2-2 draw, Sevilla won 3-1 on penalties. In 2009, Barcelona reached the final of the Champions League and defeated Manchester 2-0 to win the trophy.

In 2010, Atletico Madrid played against Fulham in the final of the Europa League and won 2-1. The following year, Barcelona played against Manchester United in the final of the Champions League again and the Catalans got the better of the Red Devils the second time with a 3-1 win.

In 2012, it was two Spanish sides in the final of the Europa League once again. This time around it was Atletico Madrid playing against Athletic Bilbao. The former won by three goals to nil.

Sevilla won the Europa League in 2014 after beating Benfica on penalties as nothing separated both sides after extra time. In the same year, Real Madrid won the Champions League after beating Atletico Madrid 4-1 in the final.
