The Norwegian received an incredible ovation from the United supporters, while he interreacted with the fans near to the Directors’ Box, posing for photographs, signing autographs and clapping towards the Red Army during the clash with the West Midlands side.

The Treble hero was signed by Alex Ferguson from Molde in 1996, before going on to score 126 goals in 366 appearances for United across his 11-year spell with the Reds.

During that time, Ole managed to capture six Premier Leagues, two FA Cups, four Charity Shields, one Intercontinental Cup and, most famously, the Champions League, which the Norwegian won at the death in the final against Bayern Munich.

Solskjaer served as caretaker manager for the Reds in 2018 after replacing Jose Mourinho, before being offered the permanent position later that year.

He made an emotional exit from the club he loves in 2021, after guiding his team to a Europa League final and second place in the Premier League table.

It was a case of welcoming Ole home again, showering him with the affection he deserves, and an opportunity that was not passed up by the fans who regularly chant his name.

Solskjaer was serenaded with the full array of his terrace songs and he will have been well pleased to see goals from Anthony Martial and Alejandro Garnacho wrap up the three points for the Reds.
