Meanwhile, Gboyega Oyetola of APC defeated the new winner four years ago. However, It was a dream come true for the 62-year-old senator who won by a 28,344 vote difference. 403,371 votes were for him as against Governor Oyetola’s 375,027 votes.
He was declared governor-elect by Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe who was the returning officer. Adeleke’s supporters reacted with echoing jubilation.
Although Governor Oyetola and Adeleke were the major candidates in the election, there were other 13 candidates. However, the election was generally peaceful though there were reports of vote buying in some areas.
Furthermore, Senator Adeleke won 17 of the 30 Local Government Areas while Governor Oyetola won the remaining 13. The two major contestants gathered 96.76 of the entire total votes. However, the other candidates were voted as follows:
