Meanwhile, in the encounter, interim manager Ralf Rangnick gave Cristiano Ronaldo the captain’s armband in place of Harry Maguire, who was ruled out due to injury. However, the Portuguese attacker failed to lead his team to victory against a more desperate Wolves.
Wolves’ first win at Old Trafford in 42 years was secured by Joao Moutinho’s 82nd-minute strike, and this also lead to Rangnick first defeat since taking over as Manchester United Coach from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
In my opinion, giving Ronaldo the captain’s armband in today’s game was a very bad decision, and I believe it was one of the factors that led to United’s loss on Monday night.
If I were the manager of Manchester United, I would give it to a player who has been outstanding in recent games, which would have been either Scott McTominay or David De Gea, because I believe a captain should be chosen based on his performances and what he has done on the field, and we all know Ronaldo has failed in this regard recently. If he is to wear the armband again, it must be because he has performed well in previous games.
Also, if he is to captain United again, he must abandon his habit of walking off the field every time the team loses. He did it today, and it is not a good example of a captain.
In my opinion, Ronaldo should not be given the Captain armband until he does these two things.
