The match was controversial as there were incidents in which the referee should have sent a player off. Barcelona young midfielder Pablo Gavi should have been sent off after commiting brutal fouls during the first half of the match, at first there was a harsh challenge on Real Madrid midfielder Camavinga and later on he went and elbowed Eder Militao on the face.
