Since the turn of the century it has achieved huge success in winning alot of european and international trophies.
Chelsea fc was an average team in english football before russian oligarch Roman Abrahimovic purchased the club for 140 million euros From Ken Bates.
Abrahimovic spent over 110million euros to bring 13 new players during his first spell at Chelsea. Some of the players were Glenn Johnson, Joe Cole, Claude Makelele and the host of others.
However the first season of the roman era saw Chelsea finished the 2003/04 premier league season as second best to Arsenal’s 03/04 invincibles.
Due to the instant demand for success. Roman sacked the then manager Claudio Ranieri and brought Jose Mourinho who with the like of stars like Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba delivered the premier league title for Chelsea. After that a wave of success sparked at Stamford bridge as chelsea went on to win 19 trophies in 19 years solidifying their title as the pride of London. The trophies they won consists of five premier league titles, five FA cups, three league cups, two champions league titles, two Europa league titles, one UEFA super cup and a fifa club world cup.
Roman Abrahimovic demand for success was really high leading him to been inpatient with coaches as all the trophies won during his reign was achieved by 13 managers including the likes of Claudio Ranieri, Jose Mourinho, Carlo Ancellotti, Roberto De Mateo, Frank Lampard, Thomas Tuchel and others.
Sadly Roman Abrahimovic was forced to sell Chelsea in March 2022 due to alleged involvements in the Russian/Ukraine war as said by the British government.
The club was sold to a consortia led by American business man Todd Boehly for a whooping sum of 2.5 billion euros. The money however wasn’t given to Roman Abrahimovic, it was sent to a private account to cater for the affected people in the war between Russia and Ukraine.
Although Roman Abrahimovic no longer owns Chelsea his winning mentality has showered around the club as he made Chelsea the most successful english club during his reign. A legacy that new owner Todd Boehly is expected to build on and raise the ranks of the west London club higher than it has ever been.
