Before the 2021–22 season, Lionel Messi ended his 21-year relationship with Barcelona. He later signed a two-year contract and joined PSG on a free transfer.

The Argentinean maestro, however, never advocated leaving Camp Nou. He wanted to stay with the Catalans longer, but he was unable to afford to do so.

According to reports, Messi even consented to a pay reduction to dedicate his future to Barcelona. He was compelled to sign with PSG, nevertheless, because La Liga regulations made it impossible for the Blaugrana to register him.

The forward’s spectacular career is slowly coming to an end at age 35, and Paris may be his last stop. However, the Camp Nou group is still hoping to see him again.

According to numerous reports, Barcelona is eager to re-sign Messi from PSG before he hangs up his boots. Even the idea that negotiations for an agreement have already begun has been floated.

But Real Madrid intends to thwart the Catalans’ efforts to bring Messi back to Camp Nou. According to the aforementioned source, they are already making an effort to stifle their competitors’ demands.

Real Madrid’s plans to sabotage the Blaugrana’s efforts to re-sign Messi are not yet evident, though. It is also unclear whether they will be successful, particularly if the player is eager to get back to Camp Nou.

It’s also important to remember that Les Parisiens are reportedly eager to sign Messi to a new contract. For both financial and sporting grounds, they are considering granting him a contract extension.

But the seven-time winner of the Ballon d’Or is now concentrated on the forthcoming FIFA World Cup in Qatar. He won’t choose his future until the competition is over in December.

Real Madrid might benefit if the Parisians can persuade Messi to sign a contract extension. Los Blancos would then be able to frustrate Barcelona’s attempts to re-sign him.
