Liverpool defeated Aston Villa in their last league game but they probably need a miracle to win the Premier League title.

As far as the next season is concerned, Manchester City have already reinforced their squad by securing an agreement to sign Norwegian striker, Erling Haaland.

In such a scenario, former Irish forward, Tony Cascarino, has backed Liverpool to hire the services of Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur. The pundit stated (The Times):

“Signing Harry Kane would be the perfect way for Liverpool to respond to City’s capture of Haaland. Tottenham Hotspur are set to finish outside the Champions League places and if that happens Kane is unlikely to want to stay for another year.”

“The England talisman cannot go to City because of Haaland’s move, Manchester United are not an option because they will miss out on the Champions League and Chelsea already have Romelu Lukaku.”

“That leaves Liverpool as the only suitable destination for Kane — and he would be a great fit for (Jurgen) Klopp’s team.”

Kane, who earns around £200,000-a-week (The Mail), is one of the best strikers in the world. He has won the PL Golden Boot on three occasions and was also the leading goal-scorer at the last FIFA World Cup.

The Three Lions captain is valued at around £140million (The Mirror via The Faithful) and in my view, such an amount should not be splashed to lure a player who will turn 29 in July.

Under Klopp, the Reds have not normally operated with an out and out striker, still they have won major prizes. Liverpool have mainly used Firmino and Jota in the False No.9 role and lately, Sadio Mane has been brilliant in the central position. Versatile attackers like Salah, Diaz and Minamino are there as well.

Mane to stay at Liverpool on one condition

According to Liverpool Echo, there are claims of Sadio Mane wanting to stay at Liverpool if he is offered a new contract which sees a substantial rise in his wages.

The Senegalese superstar will enter the final year of his current deal at Anfield next season and there haven’t been any concrete signs of him wanting to extend it. But it is now claimed that a contract that sees him earn around £300,000-a-week can convince him to stay at LFC.

It is wise to take news such as this with a pinch of salt. Mane has been linked with a move to Barcelona and Bayern Munich and it comes right in the middle of the biggest month in the history of this club in terms of winning silverware- with four trophies on the line.

Speaking in an interview with L’Equipe in March 2022 (h/t Daily Mail), Mane admitted that he doesn’t want to live a luxurious life like Neymar and Cristiano Ronaldo because he believes it isn’t ‘for him’.

What next for Mane?

So, it remains to be seen if the man who holds values such as those would want to jeopardise his future at Anfield solely because of wages. But then again, it isn’t fair to judge someone on the basis of what they think they deserve for their services.

Mohamed Salah is in the same boat, with his contract expiring in 2023. The Egyptian superstar is also demanding an increase in his wages with a figure that can reach up to £400,000-a-week, as per Daily Star.

Mane has had a superb 2022, winning the AFCON and carrying that form to Liverpool. He has been more crucial to our team’s attack this calendar year while Salah continues to underperform after a great first half of the season.

Since the ex-Metz and Southampton winger is so vital to Klopp’s team, he may want to be paid an amount that reflects that- in comparison to his teammates. There is nothing wrong with that.

But only time can tell what is true and what isn’t in this sage. The focus right now should be on winning the PL, FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League. All of this can wait until the summer window opens.
